Pilning Equaliser (a.k.a. #PilningRedOne) was launched on May 5th 2019.

The rules in this format have been superseded by the new Pilning Equaliser from 2020 onwards. This page is kept for historical record.

Rules

MvT and Pilning Station leaflet: Pilning Multiplex. The Multiple Multiple Unit Challenge. This leaflet contains a map of stations in the Freedom Travelpass ticketing area, with points corresponding to the zone, and colours corresponding to each station. A summary of this information follows. Green stations are step-free. Yellow stations have a step-free option. Red stations have limited access. Black stations have limited access and are not in play. Stations scoring one point: Patchway (red), Bristol Parkway (yellow), Filton Abbey Wood (green), Stapleton Road (red), Lawrence Hill (red), Bristol Temple Meads (yellow), Bedminster (red), Parson Street (red), Keynsham (yellow), St Andrews Road (black), Avonmouth (red), Shirehampton (green), Sea Mills (green), Clifton Down (yellow), Redland (green), and Montpelier (green). Stations scoring two points: Yatton (yellow), and Nailsea & Backwell (red). Stations scoring three points: Yate (yellow), Oldfield Park (red), Bath Spa (yellow), Freshford (black), Severn Beach (green). Pilning (green) is also in the three point zone, but does not score. Stations scoring 4 points: Worle (green), Weston Milton (green), and Weston-Super-Mare (black).

Leaving Pilning on the morning train and returning on the afternoon one, accumulate as many points as possible by visiting different stations. An exclusive Pilning Equaliser ticket is available to challengers successfully returning to Pilning having achieved the minimum number of points required for each of the levels as shown below. Bronze: 15 points. Silver: 20 points. Gold: 25 points. Your Equaliser attempt must start and finish at Pilning Station. Pilning does not score. Other than returning to Pilning via South Wales, only journeys within the Freedom Travelpass Area (FTA) are permitted. Station points are determined by the FTA zone in which it lies. You must alight at a station, photograph its name, and depart aboard a different service to which you arrived, in order for it to qualify. You may use any stations more than once, however each station will count only once when calculating your total Equaliser score. Green stations: Station is step free. All routes between platforms are step free. Stations may be level throughout or include elevators or inclines (less than 1-in-12) to provide access between platforms. Yellow stations: Station has both stepped and step-free routes between platforms, however all challengers must use the available step-free option. Use of any step or steps in connection with movement between platforms is strictly prohibited, including but not limited to footbridge steps, stepped ramps, station entry/exit steps and any kerb which isn't a dropped kerb. Red stations: Station has no step free routes between platforms - further information below. Where the route between platforms is not step free or includes inclines greater than 1-in-12, challengers may only use a service which departs from the same platform as the service on which they arrived did. Movement on or between any platforms that exceeds slow walking speed is strictly prohibited, as is the use of any station marked black. No minimum connection times. Use only scheduled public passenger train services. No rail replacement bus services or any other forms of public or private transport permitted, including between stations on foot. Challengers may only submit one challenge for any given Saturday. Rules and Bronze/Silver/Gold qualifying points are subject to change at any time. Always visit pilningstation.uk prior to travelling. All journeys taken at challenger's own risk. Always be rail safe.
