Pilning Scramble – The Grand Pilning Train Challenge

Are you brave enough to take on the challenge and secure your place in the Pilning Hall of Fame? Leaving on the morning train and returning in the afternoon, accumulate as many points as possible in a day visiting different stations, where scores are awarded based upon the first letter of their names.

The Pilning Scramble is currently accepting new challengers. Please note, the Bronze/Silver/Gold levels have been updated for 2020.

Leaving on the morning train and returning in the afternoon, accumulate as many points as possible in a day visiting different stations, where scores are awarded based upon the first letter of their names. An exclusive Pilning Scramble ticket is available to challengers successfully returning to Pilning having achieved the minimum number of points required for each of the levels as shown below.

GOLD: 40  SILVER: 32  BRONZE: 24

Your Scramble attempt must start and finish at Pilning Station, using the two services which call on any one Saturday.

The number of points awarded are determined by the initial letter of each visited station’s name. This is conveyed as tabular information below.

Each letter may be used once only when calculating your total Scramble score. Official station names as displayed on pilningstation.uk. Pilning does not score.

You must alight at a station, photograph its name and depart aboard
a different service to which you arrived, in order for it to qualify as visited.

You may use any stations more than once, or more than one station whose names share the same initial letter, however each letter will count once only when calculating your total Scramble score. i.e. Two visits to Bristol Temple Meads and one to Bath Spa will only contribute 3 points towards your total score. ( 1 x B when B = 3 )

There are no minimum connection times. You must use only scheduled public passenger train services. No rail replacement bus services or any other forms of public or private transport permitted.

When arriving at a station, photograph its name, prior to boarding any service, photograph the train.

Challengers may only submit one challenge for any given Saturday. Rules and B/S/G qualifying points are subject to change at any time. Always visit www.pilningstation.uk prior to travelling. All journeys taken at challenger’s own risk. Always be “Rail Safe”.
